Coffee Talk 4.14.10

Good morning ladies!
I think I have just about forgotten how to post...it has been that long. I don't have a lot to offer you right now, although there is still plenty of Easter candy left since I am not eating it...much! Things have gotten a little out of hand around here and I have been feeling a little overwhelmed. As a result, blogging has been put on the back burner. I can't even say I have missed it much because I really haven't even had time to think about it.
So what has been going on around here? Just the usual craziness. I just got inside from having my appendages stretched by an ever growing black lab puppy. I have decided this morning that I still don't really want a puppy. In fact, I would gladly share him with any of you lovely ladies that would like a very sweet but very active lab. Pair him with our other little dog and the neighbor's four dogs that run over to our yard to hang out every time any door is opened and I have pretty much had it with the canine group. I would happily send along any and all of his little friends for company if you would like!
I also spent a long time lamenting the fact that winter was hanging on and spring seemed to be hiding its face. Now, spring has sprung. And so has the pollen. And I am whiny again. This has been the hardest allergy season we have had in a long while. In fact, if we don't get some pollen relief soon, I am pretty sure I am going to have to invest in some Depends. 'Cause after having four babies...well let's just say the bladder just ain't what she used to be and these sneezing fits are causing...distress. I think you mommies understand.
On the marriage front, Tigerfan has had his first experience with kidney stones (good times!) and is now on a hunting trip in Texas leaving me home alone to deal with dogs, pollen and F.B.'s first formal dinner. I don't even know how to tie a tie. Really, he needed a break from his job that is just about to wear him out but I am still slightly bitter!
My diet is going well. I have lost almost ten pounds (ALMOST). It has really been very easy. When all you eat is fruit, veggies, and whole grains, there is really not a lot of questions about what to fix or eat. I do not really miss meat or dairy at all. So far, I feel very confident that I can maintain this forever...as long as I give myself a little grace in the chocolate and Diet Coke area. Any time I do feel a craving for something, I ask myself whether I am eating out of hunger or a need for nourishment or whether I am "self medicating" which is usually the answer. I have found that if I stop and think about it and pray for self control, I can easily resist the temptation...most of the time. I must admit that yesterday there was a little more self medicating than usual, but give me a break, we all have those days! :) And for those that asked a couple of weeks ago, yes, I am drinking plenty of water. And yes, it does help!
Okay, cranky, hungry children have now emerged and need to be separated and fed (not sure in which order yet). I guess I need to get geared up for a busy day: school, taking dishes to be used at the formal, guitar, getting F.B. ready for formal, dance and then just the usual. So to answer Rachel Anne's question: I am making it through with prayer and chocolate. What about you?

This allergy season has indeed been the worst - not for me, thank God, but for my husband and so may others. I hope it calms down soon and everyone can get back to breathing!

Congratulations on your diet success! You do need to allow yourself little indulgences from time to time or else your new lifestyle becomes unliveable and you become resentful - at least, that's what happened to me in the past. So stay the course, and good for you!

Ten pounds?! Wow! That's awesome! I doubt I could do the same diet, unless you can eat as much of the grains and fruits and veggies as you'd like. I'd miss meat, and I'd miss sweets (especially as I'd see my kids and husband eating both of those items ...).

We all seem to have some complaint about the season. "I look forward to spring, when it's warm, instead of all this snow" turns into "I look forward to summer when the pollen is less and the days are long", which turns into "there are too many bugs and it's too hot! I wish it was cooler" ...

It's human nature :)

Enjoy your weekend!

Congrats on the success of your diet! So sorry to hear about the kidney stones, how painful!

Girl, you need to write a book (you can do that in your spare time) because you are a great writer and so, so funny (even when you are being serious). So good to hear about what's going on. I've missed you but certainly understand that blogging is certainly unimportant in the "big scheme" of life. :o) By the way, 10#, that is awesome!

10lbs is awesome! Yea!
We were really enjoying our spring until it started raining... now we are stuck back in the house again, and going crazy!!!

Ooooh yes - allergies. My skin is itching so bad this season - but its the result of the most beautiful Bradford pear trees in our front yard, so I can't complain too much.

Congratulations on the weight loss! Amazing. I just came home from the library with 2 books: The Makers Diet and The Sugar Solution. Like you, I have to ask myself WHY I'm eating - once I realize I'm eating... It is a battle - and I'm totally with you on the chocolate and (for me) Coke Zero. =)

I understand feeling overwhelmed this week, especially - and just talked with a friend who just sighed "I miss you, my friend" as we were talking about how our weeks have been of late... Seems like its a common thing right now - and maybe part of the season, too...

Have a blessed weekend, and do enjoy your successful weight loss!

Norm has bad allergies too. This year hasn't been too bad for him but only because the rain just stopped (for now). I've heard that kidney stones is worst than giving birth. Now, I don't ever want to find out, but I can only imagine. Yikes! Hooray for the weight loss!

And Chuck E. Cheese...well, we have no plans to go back on our own accord, it was for a 3rd birthday party. They had planned for the party to be at the park, but good thing they didn't. It was probably one of the rainiest day of the year. We survived. =)

Hope you survive the weekend.

Prayer and chocolate sound like the way to get through anything!

The pollen is bothering me, too, but Clariten helps.

I could say hello to that husband of yours if he's here in Texas, but if he's hunting, he's probably not near Houston. Hope you make it through FB's formal dance! I don't know how to tie a tie either!

Thanks for the comment, it is nice to know I am not the only one lol. The crazy things things kids end up with never cease to amaze me.

Well, I'm making it thru on prayer and the prayer and support of family and friends. Times are difficult for sure. ...and the pollen...oh my goodness...my sinuses are just so heavy...I take a Singular every night just to control it all! Thanks for stopping by and your prayers...all are appreciated and welcome.

I love your blog design! It's so fun! Kidney stones are miserable (had them when I was pregnant- ugh). Congrats on the success of your diet- that's so impressive! The puppy stage does end (or so I'm told). We have two 2-year-old labs, so I'm hoping that's actually true. Good luck with your canine friends! And yay spring!

Thanks for stopping by this weekend. I can relate to the trials of having a spouse away. In theory it helps me appreciate how he fulfills his role when he is here. But I've felt a wee bit of envy at times too.

Lately the beautiful weather has help life my spirits. Being outside more and enjoying the natural beauty has helped me to press on. Most days it's not triumphantly, but somehow (thanks to God's grace) we manage. And all this in spite of the opportunities I miss.

Sneezy, wheezy, drippy, itchy...that pretty much sums it up for me too! I've been miserable! I finally got the okay from my OB to take Zertec-D but have been so busy I've not been able to get to the store. I swept our front porch yesterday and you would not have believed all the pollen I was pushing around. I had neighbors hollering "bless you" at me from next door and across the street.
I feel your pain!

Okay...congrats on the weight loss! You are rockin'! However...I'm sure I'm putting on what you're loosing! I know I'm supposed to gain weight, but but I don't want to! I've have been trying to walk. Hoping that will help some!

You keep up the good work! You're inspiring!

Blessings to you!

Glad to have you back - have missed catching up on your life!

I'm with you on the allergies. And my poor little man has them worse than I do! Poor guy - he HATES having the saline rinse and booger sucker shoved up his nose twice a day!

Way to go on the diet! If I was as disciplined as you, I might be able to lose a bit... but then I read your post and immediately started craving the bag of M&Ms in the pantry. Oh dear... :)

Hope you have a GREAT week!

I feel your pain on the allergies. It has been horrible here and started about a month ago. We've had rain the last couple of days and that's kept the pollen down, but now it's just muddy :D

Congrats on the 10 pounds!

I wondered how the puppy thing was going. Hopefully, this too shall pass and one day he'll be surprisingly anchored in your heart (or a good friend will relieve you.) :)

Congrats on the 10 lbs. I'm working on some weight loss too, but not having as much success.

I've got a couple of boys with allergies, but I do not have to contend with them. My husband was lamenting how unfair it was that the girl who loves to stay indoors has no allergies and that the man who lives to be outside has them terribly. I suggested that God knew what He was doing and that if I DID have allergies, that I would actually, never leave the house. He didn't buy it. I tried.

Hope you get some allergy relief soon.

Thanks for stopping by. Have a great week.
