Git 'Er Done

Playing this morning with Tigercub, I began to count his toes. When finished he declared it was my turn. He began counting MY toes, not an easy task because happened to be wearing tennis shoes at the time.

"One, two, three, orange...okay all done, let's play!"

I'm not sure whether to be alarmed or really excited that due to his ability to get things done he has a good chance at a career as a corporate executive or a politician!

What You Should NEVER Tell Your Mother

Yesterday, the crew was sitting around the table at lunch. F.B. started kidding his Daddy about being fat. Because he does not have the best eating habits and has a strong dislike for anything in the fruit or vegetable group, I gave him this warning: "You better watch what you say, your day is coming!"

Tigerfan responded that indeed, he gained weight after he got older. In the cocky 13 year old way, F.B. said, yeah, but you said you were always husky. So, I got in on the action. I responded that I had been skinny as a rail growing up and into my early adulthood and look at me now. His response..."Mom, your not THAT fat!"

I Have Failed

I admit it. I am ashamed.

You see, we had house guests yesterday. I had a ball getting reacquainted with a friend from the past. Someone I hadn't seen in at least 12 years.

I met his wife. Dancer had a ball with his FOUR, yes four, girls.

The boys offered up great entertainment as punching bags.

We ate supper, reminisced, laughed.

We toured the Motor Home they have been traveling the country in.

AND I DID NOT TAKE ONE SINGLE PICTURE. NOT ONE. NONE. NADA!

Bloggers everywhere are hanging their heads. What kind of blogger doesn't take pictures of that? I am kicking myself!

But we did have a great time, you will just have to picture it for yourself! As we put the children in bed, Baseball boy informed me that he knew what he was asking for for Christmas... a motor home! Santa better get a better job!

Mom and Dad, Can We Talk?

Two days a week, I teach 5th gade at our Homeschool Tutorial. The past couple of weeks, we have been studying cells. So, today we began talking about passing on traits and how our genes help determine our characteristics.

Every year we do an activity where the kids gather data about their classmates: eye color, hair color, etc. Then we compile the info. and study the most common traits. This leads into a discussion about dominant and recessive genes.

Today we were doing that activity. I was explaining the meaning of dominant and recessive and how if Mom has blue eyes and Dad has brown eyes, you are more likely to have brown eyes.

All of the sudden, one of my kids said incredulously, "You mean if I am in my mom's tummy, I could get my dad's eyes!"

I began explaining that you could get the gene from the father. Then it began: "But how? If I am in my Mom's tummy...how do I get my Dad's genes?" In five years of teaching this curriculum NO ONE has ever gone here! I began searching for an answer.

Suddenly, another child joined in, "I think you get them from kissing. That is why our moms and dads kiss all the time! Is that how you get them?"

My response..."Ask your mom and dad tonight!" Oh, I would like to be a fly on the wall of some 5 th grade houses tonight!

That's Gotta Hurt!

I am about to throw this @#$* computer out the window. I hate it when machines outsmart me. A decent post must wait for another time because my HOURS of time spent here today have been fruitless and my children are going NUTS. So, just to tide you over until another quality post from me is possible, let me leave you with this little ditty.

Dancer has been entertaining Tigercub for me while I fought with this beast of a computer! They were wrestling in her little playhouse when she exclaimed, "Mommy, help! He is pinching the guitar out of me!"

If I let them play a little longer, we could be a regular Partridge Family!
